Our vines are mostly from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. They belonged to families that elaborated the wine for their own consumption. In the same plot different autochthonous varieties coexist, being the predominant one the Mencía, with also the presence of Alicante Bouschet, Gran Negro, Doña Blanca, Prieto Picudo, Palomino or Godello among others.
We carried out a restoration work of Jamuz's wine heritage, recovering pre-phylloxera and centenary vineyards. We take care of them with the greatest care and affection, being a treasure that we must preserve. Soil work, meticulous pruning in the winter and "desnietados" in the summer to improve aeration within our vines, planted in traditional goblet of the area. In this way we manage to reduce the treatments to a minimum, strengthening the health of our plants and respecting the biodiversity and balance of the fauna and flora. In addition to these hundred-year-old plots, we have a small area of new plantations using low-vigorous rootstocks and selected wood from our old vines.
Las Jaras is obtained from hundred-year-old vineyards in our valley, which have been cared for with affection and care by many generations of our families. The vegetation that predominates in this place are forests of oaks and rockroses, that surround the vineyards and that in addition give to our wine the character that defines our landscape.
From the most inhospitable landscape, whipped by the Teleno wind and exposed to the most extreme temperatures of the valley, where the vineyards have survived to get their best expression, we obtain Las Quintas. The extreme conditions of altitude, climate and sandy soils allow to obtain the maximum expression in elegance, transmitting an incomparable aromas and freshness.
La Gándara is the best plot, the best vineyard. During the old days, everybody wanted to have their where la Gándara is located. This is a small area of just over a hectare divided into micro plots of vineyard. Very close to such plot you can find our traditional winery excavated in the mountains. The protection of the forest surrounding this area, its sunshine and the predominance of the wind have contributed to creating an exceptional landscape where the vines express an extraordinary tipicity.
In each plot, at the beginning of the 20th century, our grandparents planted a few vines of Palomino, Godello, Doña Blanca and Verdejo, among other white varieties. From these rare and very old vines we obtain in a very small quantity our white wine where the cold and austere character of our valley is expressed very well.
Harvesting is done by hand, selecting the grapes from each plot according to their ripeness and collecting them in boxes with a maximum of 15 kilos to preserve them better. An arduous task, since in some of our vineyards the bearing is very "creeping".
